Thorough examinations and diagnostics start on the farm.

Internal medicine conditions may include:

  • Weight loss

  • Respiratory issues

  • Stomach ulcers

  • Neurologic abnormalities

  • Poor performance

  • Chronic colic

  • Diarrhea

  • Allergies

Internal medicine problems require thorough physical examination and appropriate diagnostics. Pinewood Equine provides on the farm work-ups for medical conditions including abdominal and thoracic ultrasound, upper airway endoscopy, gastroscopy and numerous laboratory tests to get to the bottom of your horse's condition. When needed, we will refer you and your horse to a specialist for additional diagnostics and treatment.

Gastroscopy

Pinewood Equine is now offering gastroscopy services on the farm! Gastroscopy is the only way to definitively diagnose stomach ulcers. During this procedure, a 3m long gastroscope (fiberoptic camera) is passed through your horse’s nose to the stomach to look at the stomach lining. This allows us to identify not only the presence (or absence!) of ulcers, but the severity and location of ulcers, which allows us determine what to expect in terms of best medication to use and length of treatment.
